Our Mission: Working through advocacy to preserve our rich Wisconsin heritage and steward its most valuable resources; the land and the countless communities it supports.
Wisconsin and its rural communities are being threatened by wide-spread utility-scale solar installations. Our hope is to empower and equip local residents, through outreach and education, to join us in our fight to preserve our beloved rural landscapes for future generations of Wisconsinites.
We are not ANTI-solar. We are PRO-farmland preservation, PRO-rural economies, PRO-wildlife, PRO-outdoor recreation, PRO-agritourism, PRO-conservation, and PRO-future generation. We believe there are ways to responsibly transition to more renewable energy sources that do not include destroying public safety, health, wildlife populations, natural resources, fragile food supply chains, home values, rural landscapes, and vital agricultural lands. Learn more about some of those ways here.
According to energy.gov, the U.S. needs 1TW of solar capacity online in order to work toward decarbonizing the electrical grid by 2035. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy did a study that states the U.S. has 2 TW of potential solar capacity on brownfields. Double the amount needed to reach the stated decarbonization goals. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a brownfield as a property that has or may have hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants present, and encourages renewable energy development on these sites. Examples of brownfields include landfills at capacity, abandoned mines, and former industrial areas. Why aren’t we pursuing and incentivizing more utility-scale solar development on brownfields instead of taking some of our richest agricultural lands out of production?
